£750 RAISED FOR BUST

A photo of Jenny Wookey of B.U.S.T. receiving a cheque for £750 from David Washbrook and Ben Jones at a recent Committee Meeting. The money was raised at the BADCASS Annual Dinner which was held in March at the Thistle Hotel.

Jenny expressed her thanks to everyone in BADCASS who had contributed and thanked the Committee for choosing to support B.U.S.T.

Set out below is an extract from the Annual Dinner programme which gives a little more information about B.U.S.T.

Breast Care Unit Support Trust

Registered Charity 1055900

What is BUST?

The Frenchay Breast Care Unit Support Trust was set up in 1991 by a group of patients who had been treated for breast cancer at Frenchay Hospital. The Trust was to raise money to enable the purchase of the latest technology for diagnosis and treatment of breast abnormalities.

Today in 2005 there are several ultrasound scanners used by doctors in the clinic. BUST has raised over £400,000 – and every penny has been spent supporting ‘patient care' at the Breast Care Centre at Frenchay Hospital. As well as providing ‘state of the art' scanners, BUST is now contributing to the general needs of the Breast Care Centre.

About the Breast Care Centre

The Breast Care Centre was opened in 1995 as a multidisciplinary centre where patients can be seen by various specialists – all experts in diverse aspects of the management of breast disease. The Centre was the first of its kind in the South West and has twice been awarded the prestigious Charter Mark as a centre of excellence.

in support of BUST

Appeal from Simon Cawthorn,
Consultant Surgeon, Frenchay Hospital

I am delighted to write in support of BUST without whom our job would be much more difficult. The provision of all the facilities and equipment has made diagnosis easier and more effective, ensuring that we can achieve quicker results in a comfortable environment. Unfortunately we are victims of our own success and now find ourselves short of space.

We are hoping to enlarge the Centre, as a result of which we will need further equipment, together with the replacement of some of the equipment which is now up to 13 years old.

Your support would greatly help us to achieve these aims.
