BOOZE CRUISE 2005 - PIRATE THEME
There was a theme for this year's booze cruise
- 'Pirates', and costumes (unlike the weather) did not disappoint.
Until now the phrase 'stranger things have happened at sea'
could probably have been used during most BADCASS events but
when a record 70 members boarded Emily and Matilda with shouts
of 'Ahoy, Matey' it was immediately apparent this was going
to be no ordinary night.
We set sail down the treacherous Lower Avon
River towards the first pub. Cutlasses at the ready we dropped
anchor and stormed The Ostrich.
Yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum…actually
make it 10 bottles of wine and 30 pints please Cap'n, requested
Andy & Nick. A little later, all clutching our plastic
flagons of ale, we piled back into the boats and sailed to
the Nova Scotia. Here the drinks continued to flow, and shiver
me timbers, is that a pirate drinking off a sword?
Soon it was time to regain our sea legs, although
by this point land legs were looking a little unsteady too,
and we sailed the high seas all the way to our final destination,
the Cottage
The Cottage was the location for the traditional
boat race. The increasingly inebriated Pirates attempted to
line up in groups of 5 preparing to scuttle their pints as
fast as possible. Adopting the intellect of an average pirate
many competitors were caught hornswaggling their pints down
the front of their costumes.
An unforgettable night ended several hours later
with all 70 pirates accounted for surviving the fate of Davy
Jones' Locker.
Huge thanks to Nick, Andy and everyone at Michael
Page for their generous sponsorship and support throughout
the night.
Same time next year?
