Go-Karting 2006 - Sponsored by Red Recruitment

Thursday 18 May

After Phillip Schofield and Anne Robinson proved conclusively that men are in fact better drivers than women by testing the nation a couple of years ago, all their hard work was undone in the space of 3 hours as the girls continuously tore past the frustrated men.

Truth is, on this night, the boys got their accountant butts’ kicked. After 4 rounds of qualifying the semi-final grid positions were determined by your accumulated points score. The key was just not to make a mistake, overtaking was not easy unless you weighed approximately 3 stone or someone else crashed, so it was important to stay focussed for the duration of the 3 minute race. The winners from each of the 5 semi-finals went through to the final along with the fastest 3 runners-up.

The scene was set, girls dominated the grid, never before has a man felt so threatened by the sound of a roaring engine controlled by the dainty foot of a female. The final was 7 laps and as one would expect it produced probably the best driving of the night, not perhaps the most exciting but certainly impressive. Emily Heal started at pole position and never once looked like surrendering it. After 2 laps Emily had a comfortable lead and was able to relax into what turned out to be a flawless 7 laps. Congratulations too should go to Phil Duma for being the highest placed male finalist achieving 3rd and the final podium position.

The night was a huge success and many thanks go to Red Recruitment, our sponsors for the night who hope to make this an annual event. I can’t see there being any objections.
