5-A-Side Football 2006 - Sponsored by Michael Page

Saturday 23 April

The draw for the annual BADCASS 5-a-side tournament saw Deloitte, PwC ‘A’, Baker Tilly, Bentley Jennison, and the ‘B’ team of E&Y drawn in group 1, whilst KPMG were drawn with Howarth Clark Whitehall, PwC ‘B’, E&Y ‘A’ and RSM Robson Rhodes in group 2.

Once everyone had recovered from their previous night’s hangovers (thanks largely to the wonderful bacon paninis!) the games got underway. Last year’s winners PwC ‘A’ struggled to make any sort of impact, with Garry Creaby’s red card for his Boris Johnson-esque rugby style challenge the highlight of a rather lacklustre performance. Deloitte and Baker Tilly put in some impressive performances to qualify from Group 1.

In the other group, last year’s runners-up KPMG easily qualified alongside E&Y ‘A’. Despite some brave performances Bentley Jennison just missed out on progressing to the semis, despite playing the majority of matches with only four players!

After the “Pro-Fives spreadsheet” fell apart and failed to calculate the league tables, the semis finally got underway. Both matches were won by a single goal, with E&Y ‘A’ defeating Baker Tilly 2-1 and Deloitte knocking out KPMG 1-0.

As the rain started to fall, E&Y ‘A’, who failed to enter a team last year, stepped up to the mark to claim an infamous 3-1 victory over Deloitte.

Many thanks must go to the guys at Pro-Fives for providing the excellent facilities and organising the event, and to Michael Page for sponsoring the tournament (and their dazzling keepy-uppy skills, see photos below!)
