Christmas Pool Tournament 2005

Monday 19th December

A staggering 70 people turned up for the BADCASS Annual Christmas Pool Tournament. Coinciding nicely with the end of exams and the run-up to Christmas, spirits were high but egos unprepared for the inevitable bruising.

Several bitter faces started emerging as the tournament got underway and some close games witnessed potential tournament winners falling at the first hurdle.

The not so elegantly named Losers Tournament allowed the unsuccessful 1st round competitors another chance to further embarrass and demoralise themselves. Special mention goes to last year’s 7 balled runner up and BADCASS chair, Dave Washbrook for successfully managing to exit the tournament before seeing round 2 in either draw.

Congratulations to Charlotte Compton Williams for seeing off 3 men in the space of 90 minutes as she progressed swiftly to become the last remaining girl as the main draw reached the Quarter Final stage.

Garry Creeby faced Michael Page’s very own Andy in the final of the main draw. A fix you might think considering Michael Page’s sponsorship of the night however Andy proved himself to be a worthy finalist as he finished off Garry in a tense and nail biting final.

Garry however will be crowned the BADCASS Christmas Pool Champion of 2005 for his gutsy performance and solid progress to the final.

The final of the Losers Tournament involved Matt Joyce and another of Michael Page’s pool sharks, Joss. With both players on the black it was a test of nerve and Matt proved he had what it takes to be a worthy winner salvaging some respect for the BADCASS competitors over the Michael Page competitors.

The Lounge once more was the chosen venue for the hardened few refusing to call it a night after the excitement of the pool and this I’m afraid is where my memory begins to fail me……..

Many thanks to Michael Page Finance for their generous sponsorship of the event and assistance on the night.
