TUG OF WAR!
The inaugural BADCASS Tug of War took place on 26 July sponsored by FTC. The event was held on the Downs on a balmy summers evening. A large number of members turned out for the event with KPMG, Goldwyns, Saffery Champness, Baker Tilly, Deloitte, Robson Taylor and PwC among the firms represented. The only requisite for teams was that they should each contain no more than six people with a minimum of two female members.
The first two teams to face each other were Deloitte and PwC. After an initial debate regarding optimal positioning on the 30 metre official rope both teams unleashed their full power in front of cheering crowds. Each ‘tug’ was to be a best of three and despite a valiant effort, Deloitte lost after two tugs.
Next up was Baker Tilly vs. Goldwyns. This proved to be a close match with Goldwyns clinching it on the third tug. Event sponsors FTC then “took the strain” and battled against a strong KPMG team. However, it seemed that FTC did not know their own strength when they defeated KPMG in two straight tugs!
After three more first round tugs, it was clear that the competition was a three horse race with FTC, Goldwyns and PwC each racking up two wins. KPMG, Deloitte and Baker Tilly were thus knocked out although KPMG later notched up a closely fought “friendly” victory over Deloitte.
PwC and FTC were the first to face each other in the final round. It was clear that both teams were now physically and mentally exhausted making for some much longer tugs. In a close contest FTC fell to the might of PwC leaving both teams looking like they were ready to collapse. After a breather, PwC took on Goldwyns and managed to defeat them in a closely fought three tug contest. This meant that PwC were BADCASS Tug of War Champions and the FTC vs. Goldwyns tug was a second and third place decider. FTC unleashed their muscle upon Goldwyns and took a well deserved second place.
A buffet and drinks followed the event with over fifty BADCASS members enjoying the evening on the Downs. FTC presented the trophy to PwC to cap off a great summer event.
